Scholarships

Each year, the Texas Conference for Women, thanks to the generosity of its sponsors, awards six $5,000 scholarships to outstanding female college students who balance academics, service, and leadership to make a difference in the community. One scholarship is given in each of the following categories:

  • The Arts
  • Business
  • Education
  • Nursing
  • Math and Science
  • Public Service

In 2007, thanks to additional donations from our attendees, we were able to award an additional $500 honorable mention financial stipend in each category. If you would like to make a donation to the 2008 Scholarship Program, you may mail a donation check to:

THE ARTS

Kristen Ferguson (Houston) has been admitted as a freshman this year to the department of fine arts/visual arts at the University of Texas in Austin and she has also won some of the highest art awards in the state for her artwork. She had to assume the role of caretaker in high school of both of her parents. Through working with child burn victims, Kristen realized her ultimate goal is to use her education towards ‘the sculpture of the soul' and enriching the lives of others.

BUSINESS

LeKisha McKinley (Austin) says that her goals are to break the poverty cycle and help the people rise up intellectually to uncover a world beyond the day-to-day struggle. She plans to use her education to start a non-profit organization to combat illiteracy and improve parental involvement with disadvantaged youths. LeKisha is a single mother to her two-year-old daughter.

EDUCATION

Sandra de Leon (San Antonio) is a first generation American and the first in her family to obtain a high school and college degree.
