The power of women is truly amazing. When we come together, we can educate, enlighten, and inspire one another. That connection—and your participation—made the 2007 Texas Conference for Women a shining success.

Whether you came to connect, to learn, to share, or to network, we hope you left the Conference with new ideas and new opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.

Lasting Impressions

As the presenting sponsor of the 2007 Texas Conference for Women, we thank you for attending this year’s event. We at BP are proud to share in the success of this conference and extend our appreciation to the many inspiring women who shared their experiences and discussed the issues that affect the personal and professional lives of women.

Keynote speakers Carly Fiorina, Elizabeth Vargas, and Mary Wilson of the Supremes shared thoughts on how they have triumphed in business and entertainment, tackled challenges as working mothers and achieved their goals and dreams.

The breakout sessions were equally enlightening. During the “Lessons in Leadership” session, for example, Jeanne Johns reflected on her experiences ascending to the top leadership position in BP North America Gas Liquids and offered advice for working through the labyrinth of corporate America.

“Seek out and surround yourself with those who give you positive energy. There will always be those who doubt your ability, but you can’t focus on that.” She added, “I always encourage women to talk to others. The broader your knowledge base and support, the easier it is to learn about career opportunities and move up.”

At the “Women as Caregivers” panel, Kathleen Lucas from BP Texas City discussed wrangling with guilt and the tough choices made while caring for her mother in failing health.

We hope you enjoyed hearing from all the panelists and featured speakers who shared their personal experiences on changing the world.
BP’s sponsorship of the Texas Conference for Women also included funding the scholarship program. Six $5,000 academic scholarships were awarded to young women attending colleges and universities in Texas. In the history of the program, a total of $115,000 has been awarded to 23 students who balance academics, service and leadership to make a difference in the community.
The Texas Conference for Women is the state’s premiere education and networking event for women, and draws thousands of women each year for a day of sharing, learning, inspiration and motivation. The conference reached capacity at the Austin Convention Center and will relocate to Houston next year.

We hope you will join us in Houston in 2008 as we continue to celebrate the power and energy of Texas women and their ability to lead vital businesses and organizations.
