Celebrating Shared Values
As the presenting sponsor of the Texas Conference for Women, BP America strongly endorses the conference's focus on new perspectives, fresh ideas and big opportunities. That's because we believe the future economic growth and vitality of Texas is closely linked to having a strong and diverse base of talented women leaders who seize big opportunities. There are great expectations for women to build new traditions.
Similarly, BP believes that developing a culture of diversity is a business imperative. The long-term success of our company depends on our ability to create a work environment that nurtures and encourages fresh approaches to meeting our business goals.
In addition to sponsoring events like the Texas Conference for Women, BP America has developed and implemented a number of programs designed to fill the pipeline of women as leaders in our company's future.
At our offices in Texas City and Houston, for example, we have organized women's network groups to enable women at all levels to come together for connection, support and mentoring. The networks also serve as a forum to provide feedback to BP leadership about the needs of women at BP.
As a result of these and other global initiatives, there has been impressive growth in the representation of women in BP's most senior ranks. The number of executive women has more than doubled in five years – demonstrating that with training, coaching and support, every woman can achieve her professional aspirations.
Our commitment to women hasn't gone unnoticed. In 2006, BP received the 2006 Catalyst Award recognizing exemplary business initiatives in promoting women's leadership. And we have been recognized by Working Mother magazine for our programs addressing the needs of working mothers. This is only a start to what we can achieve.
The Texas Conference for Women is building a new legacy of women leadership. We're looking forward to seeing the impact this special event will make in inspiring thousands of Texas women to greatness.
