Fast Fix: 5 Favorite Links for Renewal

by Tammy Tibbetts

I’m not the type to find mind-and-body balance with yoga; I’d rather be pounding the pavement on a mile run. Being in the start-up phase of a non-profit doesn’t allow time and budget for many rejuvenating vacations, either, but at this point in my life, that’s OK — honestly, for me, a good Windexing of my desktop and recycling of the excess papers piling up can make me feel more mentally organized. So what I’ve gotten really good at is finding renewal in hidden places, like within the links that cross my Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr news feeds — they remind me to stop and appreciate the wonders of life, even when it’s a whole lot of work!

Inspiration, Wisdom, and Beauty: Nikita Mitchell of Washington, DC (@NikitaTMitchell) cultivates the best feed of quotes and images to empower women and girls.

Work is Not a Job: Cathi Bruns (@cathibruns) is starting a movement for making a living off of what you love.

Jessica’s “Daily Affirmation”: I mean, can you really not have newfound appreciation for the little things in life after watching this?

She’s the First Penpal Letters: When I read letters of gratitude from girls whose lives have been transformed by an education, thanks to She’s the First – that renews me!

The HOLSTEE Manifesto: All you ever needed to know in life, 710×950 pixels.

I know this isn’t the same as rejuvenating the good-old-fashioned way in the great outdoors, with no Internet connectivity, but renewal can be found all around us, even with the click of a button!

2011 Texas Conference for Women speaker Tammy Tibbetts passionately advocates the power of social media to create social change. She is the founder and president of She’s the First, a not-for-profit that sponsors girls’ education in the developing world.
