The Resilient Leader
The challenges of recent turbulent economic times have taken a toll on everyone in some capacity, both professionally and personally. Resiliency is a critical skill for survival – both in life and in business. Women leaders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives are brought together for an interactive discussion to share their personal journeys around overcoming obstacles at various times in their lives. Using their best practices and lessons learned, we will explore the qualities of a resilient leader and how you can develop and refine resiliency skills to conquer any challenges that cross your path.

Turning Hardship into Success

Nikki Johnson-Huston, Esq. is an unlikely success story. Born into poverty, she was homeless at age 9, failed out of college by age 18 and now stands here as an award-winning attorney. Nikki will inspire us all as she shares her very personal story of how she got her life back on track, fought through adversity and never gave up on her dreams no matter the odds.

Achieving Success and Overcoming Obstacles Through the Power of Mentorship

Nikki Johnson-Huston’s success was a direct result of her perseverance and the important mentor relationship with her grandmother. This interactive workshop will explore how mentors can help you achieve success and overcome obstacles. We will explore: how to select a mentor; how to be a good mentee, and how to get the most out of your mentor relationship based on your unique needs and priorities.

Effective Skills and Tools for Accessing Capital
This interactive workshop will share tools to help you access funding to grow your business or to start a business. By taking the Springboard eCAT capital access test, you will determine what type of capital is right for you. We will also feature a live panel for you to meet women who have raised money, as well as present a “mock pitch” for funding with live feedback and coaching so you can see best practices in action. Lastly, we will provide you with a tangible tool about community resources available to help you with your funding plan and access funding in Pennsylvania.

New research has proven that women’s participation on boards has a direct impact on the success of a company’s bottom line. Over the last several years there has been increased presence of women on corporate and public boards. In December 2009 alone, 30 women were appointed seats across the country. In this engaging discussion, we will learn how these dynamic women obtained their board seats and also explore:
• Practical tips for how you can get a seat at the table and identify
what type of board seat is right for you
• How board participation can positively impact and propel your career
• Differences between public and private boards
• How to use board experience to run for public office
