Flip-flops stashed in the car were no longer cutting it for Jessica Nadeau as the go-to comfort shoe when her feet were sore from being in heels too long. So the San Antonio native and University of Texas] graduate, 27, designed Solettos, a solution that, while not totally original, has enough of a twist to give it an early toehold in the massive women's footwear market. Solettos are portable flats designed to be rolled up and carried in a purse or a pocket so they're on hand when heels or other restrictive footwear are no longer tolerable. Solettos sell online and through about 300 stores nationally. Nadeau said her experience as a businesswoman showed how much working women could use handy footwear alternatives at the office, when traveling and for anyone else who just needs a spare pair. With first year sales exceeding 15,000 pairs nationally, Solettos has already begun to expand the product with new sizes, colors and a handy wristlet that comes with every pair. Nadeau is excited about the future and hopes to continue getting support from the retail world. www.solettos.com
