Laura Rice

2023 and 2025 Speaker

Moderator | The Focus Factor: Attention, Anxiety & Wellbeing at Work

Though her official title is Managing Producer, Laura wears many hats at Texas Standard. Listeners occasionally hear her on-air as a host or reporter, but most of her work happens behind the scenes — shaping editorial decisions and lending a critical ear to the audio that airs. She’s passionate about mentoring the next generation of journalists through the show’s internship program and leads special projects, including the National Edward R. Murrow Award-winning documentary Out Of The Blue: 50 Years After The UT Tower Shooting and The Long Haul: Texas and the Pandemic.

Before joining Texas Standard, Laura worked just a few cubicles over in the KUT Newsroom, where she produced Morning Edition and served as a fill-in host. She began her career in television news as an anchor, reporter, and producer in Austin, Amarillo, and Toledo, Ohio.

Laura is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and holds an MA from UT Austin’s Radio-Television-Film program. She’s a mom of two and an out-of-practice triathlete who enjoys travel, film, and audiobooks.
